1. MOISTURE MITIGATION
Moisture management is an important part of building a durable home. We use moisture-conscious building practices and materials designed to help protect the home from moisture exposure. During construction, we strategically frame during the driest months and work to get the roof dried in as early as possible. We also use products and construction details that help manage moisture within the building envelope.
We use HydroGap® Drainable Housewrap to create a water-resistant, vapor-permeable layer that allows moisture behind the siding to drain away while helping the wall assembly dry. This helps reduce trapped moisture and supports a more durable home.

2. THOUGHTFUL ELECTRICAL DESIGN
We take a thoughtful approach to electrical design, with consideration given to where electrical components are located and how wiring is installed. Electrical wiring can be encased in metal-clad (MC) cable, and the electrical pedestal is positioned away from the home. Electrical panels are located in the garage, away from primary living and sleeping spaces.
Bedrooms can include electrical kill switches that allow power to the room to be shut off while sleeping. We also use incandescent lighting rather than LED lighting in these homes to avoid high blue-light content and potential invisible flicker. These details reflect our broader philosophy: thoughtful design doesn't stop at what you can see.
3. NATURAL, DURABLE MATERIALS & FINISHES
The materials inside your home matter. KAL Enterprises prioritizes natural, durable materials throughout the home and avoids MDF and particleboard wherever possible. We use hardwoods for trim, cabinetry, doors and natural stone for countertops. Floors are site-finished hardwood, mechanically fastened with nails rather than adhesives.
Using natural and durable materials helps create beautiful spaces while minimizing the use of plastics, glues, and other synthetic materials. Hardwoods used throughout cabinetry, doors, flooring, and trim provide beauty and durability while supporting our focus on indoor air quality.
4. HVAC, VENTILATION & AIR EXCHANGE
A comfortable home needs more than heating and cooling. It needs thoughtful ventilation. Our HVAC systems are selected and designed using proper calculations to support adequate ventilation, balanced indoor and outdoor air, and effective humidity management.
Heat Recovery Ventilators (HRVs) and Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERVs) provide whole-home ventilation by bringing in fresh outdoor air while exhausting stale indoor air. These systems also help manage humidity and indoor air quality.
During construction, ducts and registers are sealed to help prevent construction dust from entering the HVAC system. The result is an intentionally designed air exchange system that helps balance fresh outdoor air with conditioned indoor air.
5. BUILDING TIMING MATTERS
When a home is built can matter almost as much as how it is built. In North Idaho and the Inland Northwest, weather and moisture are important considerations during construction. That's why we strategically time portions of the building process around the driest months whenever possible.
We prioritize getting the roof dried in early to help minimize moisture exposure and protect the structure during construction.
Framing lumber is carefully inspected throughout the building process. Damaged or substandard boards are removed rather than simply incorporated into the structure. It's another example of our commitment to doing things thoughtfully and intentionally.
